University of Saskatchewan Board of Governors Approves 2010-11 Operations Forecast
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Nov. 20, 2009
2009-11-05-OTHER
The University of Saskatchewan (U of S) Board of Governors has approved the institution's operations forecast for 2010-11. The annual operations forecast outlines the university’s operating and capital budget priorities, and sets the tone for the U of S annual budget.
“The operations forecast document provides the basis for realistic discussions with the province about the university’s funding needs for the upcoming year, which takes on additional significance in these challenging financial times,” said U of S Board of Governors Chair Art Dumont.
The operations forecast projects a balanced operating budget for the university in 2010-11, based on operating revenue needs of $380.6 million. This 2010-11 operating revenue forecast is an increase of 5.4 per cent over the university’s 2009-10 budget. Tuition revenue, a factor of both tuition fees and enrolment, is expected to constitute less than 22 per cent of total operating revenue, a percentage that has declined in recent years.
The Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour will use the operations forecast to inform its request to the Treasury Board for funding as part of the province’s budget, to be released in spring 2010. The U of S Board of Governors will approve the university’s 2010-11 detailed operating budget in May 2010.
The operations forecast, a key feature of the university’s integrated planning process and multi-year operating budget framework, showcases how the university and the government work together to advance key shared interests.
