Chancellor Vera Pezer’s speech will be one of the first unveiled in the Intellectual Muscle lecture series that is part of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games Education Program.
Pezer’s speech will be released Oct. 10, making it the second in the series, which launched Oct. 8. Vancouver 2010, in partnership with The Globe and Mail, will release speeches each week until the Olympics begin in Feb. 2010. The U of S is one of 25 institutions participating across Canada.
Contributors were asked to write and record a speech related to one of the three pillars of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics – sport, culture and sustainability. Pezer’s speech addresses the importance of sport and the additional benefits that are often overlooked given the emphasis on winning.
Pezer’s speech can be heard at http://www.globeandmail.com/intellectualmuscle. Visitors to the site can also participate in a national dialogue about topics related to the Olympics.
