U of S International establishes
$1,000 award in
President Ivany?s name

On the occasion of its fifth anniversary, the University of
Saskatchewan International (USI) office announces the
creation of the J.W. George Ivany Internationalization
Award, to recognize outstanding contributions by academic
or administrative staff in promoting internationalization at
the U of S.

Dr. Asit Sarkar, director of USI, says the annual award,
which carries a $1,000 prize, acknowledges Dr. Ivany?s
commitment to internationalization and his leadership in
fulfillment of that commitment. Sarkar mentions the
president?s participation in the federal Team Canada
missions and his various efforts to bring a global
perspective to the University?s teaching, research, and
scholarship.

Sarkar says the award, to be presented at each Fall
Convocation, will recognize individuals who have
stimulated, participated in, and/or supported cross-cultural
and/or cross-national perspectives in the pursuit of
teaching, research, and service functions of the University.

The vice-president (academic) will chair and appoint a
selection committee, with representation from academic
and administrative personnel as well as students and
alumni.

Nominations can be made by any member of the University
community, students included. Nomination forms are
available at the University of Saskatchewan International
Office, 216 Kirk Hall. Application deadline is May 31.
